Is it extremely rare in Britain for a person to die before they turn 18?

I know the infant mortality rates are very low in this country (certainly when you compare them to those from 1910). But, what about children who may fall victim to alcohol and drug abuse, AIDS, depression which leads to suicide etc... Also, how rare is it really for children to be abducted and murdered? We sensationalise cases such as the Moors Murders and James Bulger's murder, but how many of these incidents go unreported (the child just simply disappears)?
