Question about dog's exercise...?

My friend has a high-energy dog, who requires an hour walk each day, or she is absolutely bouncing off the walls. An hour seems to be a good rule of thumb for dogs that are labeled high-energy. German Shepherds are high-energy dogs and need a "job", or they could become bored and destructive.
